Functions as acting FRC in absence of FRC in the facility. The Assist. FRC under the direction of the FRC ensures that all therapy services are provided in accordance with EHSI/ProStep policies and procedures and in compliance with state and federal regulations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Provision of patient care consistent with the job description of the individual's discipline as directed by the Facility Rehab Coordinator. 2. Function as a role model for staff therapists, assistants, and rehab techs. 3. Professionalism, diplomacy and accuracy in verbal and written communication. 4. Supervisory Responsibilities-Assists FRC with the following: Determination of daily work assignments. Monitoring technical and professional staff within the rehabilitation department. Reassignment of employees from one area to another area as facility needs dictate to meet caseload demands. Provision of input for written evaluations of employees. Enforcement of facility policies including Disciplinary Action Reports or investigation of incidents as needed. Review of time records for accuracy and variances. Interview and orientation of all new applicants and associates. Reporting and handling of employee/client/family complaints that pertain to rehab. *Participates in training programs and assists in orientation of new staff. Serves as acting FRC when FRC out of facility and assumes all essential functions of FRC position. When serving as acting FRC for extended period (greater than two weeks), refer to FRC job description. Monitor and follow up on programs established by facility, interdisciplinary team, and/or corporate under FRC direction. Monitor departmental compliance with all federal and state regulations - including EHSI and PSRS policies and procedure in accordance with the professional code of ethics for each discipline. 5. Function as rehab representative for facility and community-based meetings and events such as marketing calls, job fairs, etc. as determined by FRC. 6. *Complies with laws and regulations applicable to position and act in accordance with Extendicare Health Services, Inc.'s Corporate Compliance Program. 7. Treats all residents, visitors, and staff with courtesy. 8. *Attends and participates in in-service training, performance improvement ("PI") committees and other meetings as scheduled and directed by FRC. 9. Follows facility dress and hygiene policies. 10.Safety Knows and follows facility rules. *Demonstrates proper use of equipment. Reports equipment needs or repairs. Follows smoking policies of the facility. Reports any incidents or accidents of residents, staff or visitors to FRC. Reports all hazardous conditions/equipment to FRC. *Performs duties, which may include transportation of residents, as assigned in Facility Disaster Plan. Uses required protective equipment. Follows infection control standards, policies and procedures. 11. Resident Rights Knows Resident Rights. Helps the residents/patients exercise and/or protect their rights. Reports resident/patient complaints to FRC. Maintains confidentiality of resident/patient information. 12. HIPAA Follows and adheres to Extendicare's policies and procedures implementing HIPAA requirements for the privacy and security of protected health information. Uses and/or discloses only minimum amount of Protected Health Information necessary to complete assigned tasks (applies only if position requires access to PHI under Role Based Access Grid). Reports all suspected violation of company's HIPAA policies or procedures to Facility Privacy Designee. Other Duties: *Works overtime, holiday and weekend hours as scheduled. *Performs other duties as directed by FRC or RDR. *Participates in marketing events as directed by FRC. Minimum Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Graduate of an accredited program in physical, occupational, or speech therapy. State credentialing /licensure as required. Experience: Minimum of one-year of clinical experience with geriatrics. Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Ability to relate positively, effectively and appropriately with residents, families, community members, volunteers and other facility staff. Possess special interest in, and a positive attitude about, working with long-term care residents and the elderly. Ability to read, write, speak and understand English. Meets all health requirements, as required by law. ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The responsibilities of this position involve significant physical activities including standing, lifting (up to 60 pounds unassisted), bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and twisting. The tasks on this position description marked with an asterisk (*) are those that regularly require these physical activities. All employees of nursing homes may be required to provide lifting and transfer assistance to residents.
